Tree Removal & Replacement: Procurement in 2020
|
|
Trees are felled, removed, and replaced frequently for all sorts of reasons. Though, as more and more trees age and pests spread, the demand for these and other landscaping services has become increasingly in demand. Many cities and counties all across the country have been forced in recent years and months to address the issue of aging, infected, and dying trees.
Emerald ash borer has become of particular concern. The metallic green beetle bores into the ash tree, a prolific variety in the United States, and feeds on the tree’s interior ultimately killing it. This severely compromises the structure of the tree and creates a serious risk of the tree falling over. Many cities and counties are being forced to remove infected trees as they become a safety hazard for people and property. Furthermore, the pest has been confirmed in thirty states from the Midwest to the northeast and southeast according to the Emerald Ash Borer Information Network.
Despite common assumptions, arboriculture is actually a lucrative industry. In fact, in January of 2017, the City of Quincy, Illinois awarded a nearly $10,000 contract to Terstriep Tree Service for the removal from city streets of nineteen large ash trees infected with Emerald Ash borer. In addition, the City of Blaine, Minnesota just announced that it would invest up to $100,000 to replace trees that were felled as part of a wetland sanctuary effort.
Federal, state, and particularly local government agencies are increasingly in need of professional tree removal and often replacement tree planting services to ensure safety, but also to create aesthetics using trees and shrubs in neighborhoods and along city streets. Arborists and landscapers as well as those firms that provide tree removal, stump grinding, and planting services must look no further than FindRFP to discover opportunities of interest.
